Forum poster Afrohawk52 brought to our attention a scan of Nintendo Power’s cover for their next issue. Said cover features Sonic the Hedgehog holding a sword, with the title Sonic and the Black Knight written underneath him. This scan has been floating around internet forums for a while, and now SEGA confirms it through a press release.

It’s called the Wii MotionPlus. What does it do? It tracks 1:1 movement, in the sense that every tiny gesture you make is reflected immediately on screen. Here’s the press release:
NINTENDO INTRODUCES THE WII™ MOTIONPLUS
July 14, 2008
Nintendo’s upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.
Well, it looks like we’ll know more about it tomorrow in this case.

MegaMan going back to 8-bit, Chrono Trigger for the DS, and now… Nibris has finally opened up their website. Don’t know who Nibris is? Can’t blame you. Waaaaay back when the Wii was announced, but not released, an upstart development studio announced that it was working on a psychological horror game that would be entirely in black and white and feature no HUD, or in-game menus…
Wacky, isn’t it? Well, up until now, there were a few screenshots and promises, but the game was pretty much considered to be vaporware. Just recently, that upstart studio get their website online, shwoing taht they still have an interest in making the game and want to release this.
For those who have been following Nibris’ news, there is unfotunately no news on whether or not they found a publisher.

Member Puxel has very subtely pointed out acountdown for what is obviously Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS. What isn’t so obvious, though, is if this game is a sequel or remake…
Aside from that, not much to say. Still, Chrono Trigger for the friggin’ DS!
Thanks again to Puxel! Read the thread here!

UPDATE: Yahoo Finance has the official press release. An extra dungeon and wireless play have been confirmed.

This week is very “meh”… One WiiWare and one VC release each. You’d think that Nintendo would increase digital releases during the summertime, when retail games’ launches are relatively weak.
That being said, what’s out today isn’t necessarily bad. Magnetica Twist, available on WiiWare, is a puzzle favorite that is only controlled by twisting the Wii Remote and pressing A to shoot a marble. Create chains and combos by lining up marbles of the same color. Puzzle lovers will need to check this one out.
Also out is Fatal Fury 2, which was originally for the NeoGeo. Five more fighters get in the ring, stage hazards pop up, desperation attacks can turn the tide of any fight and two-line battle makes a return.

Sorry for the tardy update!
Yesterday, three games were added to the library. First, Gyrostarr, a shmup developped by High Voltage Software is now available through WiiWare, costing a modest 700 Wii Points.
As for the VC, we get Alex Kidd in Miracle World for the SEGA Matser System and Burning Fight, which was playable on the NeoGeo.

It looks like Nintendo is still favouring WiiWare over the VC, but even then, they gave us a great reason to care about the NeoGeo this week.
Samurai Showdown is now available for 900 Wii Points, and for anyone that claims to be a fighting-game fan, this one is a must. Twelve fighters, each with unique characteristics, duel honorably with each other until they reach the final boss, Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. This game, at its time, had an incredible amount of detail. Check it out.
On WiiWare, Block Breaker Deluxe is another Breakout clone. There isn’t much more to say about it. Lastly, Cocoto Fishing Master sounds like the mos epic fishing game ever. Don’t beleive me? Read the official press release after the break.

It looks like 2K Sports is trying to beat EA Sports at being the first to bring Canada’s national sport to Nintendo’s console - as a matter of fact, EA has announced no such project thus far.
The game in question is being worked on by Visual Concepts, the studio responsible for pretty much every 2K sports game out there. In the press release (which you can read by clicking the jump), the studio says that they will offer all the same features that are available on the other consoles (PS2, 360 and PS3) and make use of the Wiimote as a hockey stick.

The title pretty much says it all, really.
The developpers aim ata Q1 200 Release and have confirmed online play (as was hinted at in the trailer), although no further details were provided on that aspect. I wasn’t able to find the actual press release, but aside from those two pieces of info, High Voltage Software asserts that the game aims at being the fastest-paced shooter on Wii, along with the best visuals possible to boot. While their tech demo shows that they can do pretty things on Wii, we have yet to see actual gameplay footage, other than what was shown in the original trailer. Usual corporate-speak.

One WiiWare game, an import, and an anomally.
First, My Pokémon Ranch will have Pokéfans rejoice, as this s as close as they’ll get interact with Pokémon. This title alows users to upload their Diamond/Pearl monsters onto the Wii (Wii-DS connectivity, yay!) and have their Miis play with and take pictures of them. Aside fom that, it doesn’t seem to be much morethan another Pokémon box. Well, okay. It can store up to 1,000 ‘mons from 8 different cartridges.
BIO MIRACLE BOKUTTE UPA is a platformer that never made it out of Japan until now. Judging from the description, it sounds like a neat platformer with a twist, but I’d wait for a review before anything else.
Lasty, the anomally. It’s DigDug. It’s not that I have anythng against him, but… the game’s listed as an import, and is thus priced at 600 Wii Points. I wonder how Ninetndo is going to address this issue.
